Springfield, MO News-Leader; Sept 10, 2002
Mildred Josephine Holt Baker died in the Arkansas Hospice, Little Rock, AR on Sunday, September 8, 2002. She was a fourth generation Arkansan, the great-great granddaughter of John Larkin Holt who settled in Carroll County, AR in 1848. She was born on November 15, 1910, the daughter of the late Luther Clay and Ora Brooks Davis Holt. She was a lifelong resident of Harrison, Ar, Boone County.
Mildred graduated from Harrison High School in the Class of 1928. In high school she was a member of the women's basketball team. In her senior year she won the Lincoln Medal for her essay on the life and times of Abraham Lincoln.
On November 25, 1927, Mildred married Herbert Allen Baker. Herbert was also a member of a pioneeer family of Boone County. His great grandfather, John Twittty " Jack" Baker, came to Arkansas in the early 1850's from Alabama and was one of the leaders of the ill-fated wagon train that was massacred at Mountain Meadows, Utah in 1857.
She was a charter member of the Jeremiah Hale Brooks Chapter of the Daughters of the Confederacy. Jeremiah Brooks was her mother's grandgfather.
